UPS Tracking
UPS moves an enormous volume of parcels every day, and most of them arrive without any drama, but a few recurring patterns show up often enough in shipment feedback that it's worth knowing about them ahead of time. One is a tracking update claiming a delivery was attempted when nobody actually came to the door. Another is a shipment that appears to bounce between two facilities in different cities more than once before settling into a straight path. Neither of these necessarily means something has gone seriously wrong, they're usually routing or scheduling quirks rather than a sign the parcel is lost, but they can be confusing if you don't know they happen. This page shows the tracking events UPS has published for your shipment so far.
How to Track UPS Shipments
Enter your UPS tracking number into the box above and select Track. The number is usually included in the shipping confirmation email from the sender, separate from any earlier order confirmation. A newly created shipment can take a little while before its first scan appears, that's normal and doesn't mean anything has gone wrong yet. Once movement starts, keep an eye on the most recent scan location and date, since that's more informative than the general status word on its own.
UPS Tracking Number
A standard UPS tracking number starts with 1Z followed by 16 more characters, but not every shipment follows that exact format. UPS Mail Innovations and SurePost shipments, which hand off to USPS for the final delivery, use a longer all-digit number instead. If your number doesn't start with 1Z and isn't working here, check whether your shipping confirmation mentions a different service, since that longer postal-style number may be the one that actually works.
UPS Delivery Information
Delivery timing depends on the service selected and the distance involved, and a shipment can occasionally show scans at two facilities in different regions more than once before it settles into a clear route toward you. This is usually a sorting or routing adjustment rather than a sign of a problem. A more frustrating pattern some shipments show is a delivery attempt being logged even when nobody came to the address. If this happens, checking whether a redelivery or pickup-point notice followed is the quickest way to figure out what actually happened to the parcel. If a shipment is marked delivered but hasn't turned up, asking for the delivery photo or signature record is usually the fastest way to confirm where it was actually left.
UPS International Tracking
International UPS shipments generally move through pickup, export processing, international transit, and customs clearance in the destination country before the final delivery leg. Customs is often the stage where a shipment appears to pause the longest, particularly if duties or import documentation are required, and any genuine request for payment will also appear directly in UPS's own tracking system, not only as a text message or email with a link.

Frequently Asked Questions About UPS Tracking
This is a pattern some UPS shipments show, where an attempt gets logged without an actual visit to the address. Checking the tracking for a rescheduled delivery date or a nearby pickup point is usually the quickest way to figure out where things stand, and contacting UPS directly with the tracking number can help if neither shows up.
This usually points to a routing or sorting adjustment rather than the shipment being lost. Parcels sometimes pass through a hub more than once before settling into a direct path to the destination. It's worth checking again after a day, since this tends to resolve on its own.
Ask UPS for the delivery photo or signature record attached to the tracking entry, since that will usually show exactly where and to whom the package was handed over. If it shows the wrong address or no record at all, contacting UPS and the sender together tends to get a faster resolution.
Only on international shipments, and only if duties or taxes apply based on the destination country. A genuine charge will always also show up in UPS's own tracking system. A text or email asking for payment through a link, with nothing showing on the official tracking page, should be treated as suspicious.
It's normally in the shipping confirmation email sent after the order is dispatched, separate from the earlier purchase confirmation. If you can't locate it, check your account on the retailer's website or ask the sender directly.
